Become What You Are

Becoming what you are isn’t about the pursuit of a new version of yourself; it’s about showing who you’ve always been underneath the noise. It’s the process of taking what GOD has embedded inside us — the strength, the creativity, the courage –and bringing it all to the surface. Within the Book of 1 John in the Bible, it’s written; “I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.”(1 John 2:14). With this in mind, it is no coincidence when it also declares, “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”(Joshua 1:9). GOD says we are something, then tells us to be the very thing he already told us we were. This is because the world is doing everything it can to keep us from forgetting who we are in the beginning. The pressures, comparisons, and distractions of life obfuscates who we truly are until we undeniably try to live an entirely different way. If we’re made in the image of God, that means every difference — fingerprint, skill set, personality trait — represents something divine. The parable of the servants and their talents shows this idea quite clearly.  A man gave talents to his servants and each got what matched their inherent ability, no more, no less. GOD almighty is the same way; he doesn’t want us smothered under what we can’t bear, He wants us to grow with what’s ours to hold. But in his growth so often He reminds us to count on Him even for support.

“When I am weak, then I am strong”-- (2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT) is not only a verse but also the hidden truth that it is this dependence on God which gives us strength. If success comes from the inside-out and not the outside-in, then failure too must also come from the inside-out and not the outside-in. You failed to be who God made you to be internally and thus you failed externally. We stumble most when we turn away from who God made us to be, when we stop living from the soul outward. The moment we forget our inner purpose, our outer results fall apart.  When we cease to remember what we are made to do and our purpose, the results we produce on the outside are in shambles. Our goal should thus be to “Be fruitful” (Genesis 1:28 NLT), which ultimately means to produce on the outside what GOD put on the inside. Father put greatness within us, so it’s our responsibility to manifest said greatness in reality on the outside.

As the ancient adage goes, “I think, therefore I am.” What we think, we inevitably become. The task, then, is to think and see ourselves the same way in which GOD sees us — to cling to the truth that we are already prepared, already loved, and already capable. The assignment is not to turn into someone you are not; the assignment is to become what you are.

“Relish the challenges and hardships you face now alyjawan, for they will introduce you to a greater version of you that currently lies dormant within the infinite chasm that is you.” -ATG3 09/2024
